Withey helps No. 14 Kansas cruise past Texas

Updated: February 16, 2013

Jeff Withey recorded a double-double with 15
points and 11 rebounds, as No. 14 Kansas routed Texas, 73-47, on Saturday at
Allen Fieldhouse.

Travis Releford also finished with 15 points, while Ben McLemore and Elijah
Johnson added 13 and 12 points, respectively, for the Jayhawks (21-4, 9-3 Big
12), who have won two straight on the heels of a three-game skid to move into
a tie for first place in the conference with Kansas State and Oklahoma State.

Myck Kabongo led the Longhorns (11-14, 3-9) with 13 points and Connor Lammert
added nine for Texas, which has lost three of its last four games.

The Jayhawks led from wire-to-wire in the rout, as Releford opened the contest
with back-to-back 3-pointers around a Lammert layup before Johnson added a
triple of his own to give Kansas a 15-8 lead just over five minutes in.

McLemore then added to the 3-point barrage with a trey near the midpoint of
the half, sparking a 13-2 Kansas run that Withey capped with a pair of free
throws to make it 28-11 with just over a minute left.

The Jayhawks carried a 28-15 cushion into the break before opening the second
half on a 13-4 spurt to build a 41-19 lead and put the contest out of reach.

Texas never got closer than 17 the rest of the way, as Kansas pushed its lead
as high as 35 before cruising to victory down the stretch.
