Carson, CA (Sports Network) – Jhonny Gonzalez took down previously undefeated
WBC featherweight world champ Abner Mares with a first round knockout at the
StubHub Center on Saturday.

Gonzalez (55-8, 47 KOs) dropped Mares with a hook and then again with a
barrage of punches.

Mares (26-1-1, 14 KOs) could not get up and the official waved the fight off.
Time of the fight was 2:55.

In the WBC super bantamweight bout, Leo “Terremoto” Santa Cruz captured the
belt with a knockout over the now former champ Victor Terrazas.

Santa Cruz (25-0-1, 15 KOs) stayed undefeated and was clearly the better of
the two fighters, consistently landing shots to the head and body of Terrazas.

Terrazas (37-3-1, 21 KOs) went down twice in the third round and the official
called the fight at 2:09 upon seeing the former champ’s condition.
