Hatton knocked into retirement again

Ricky Hatton retired again after Vyacheslav Senchenko had knocked him out in the ninth round on Saturday night.

The 34-year-old Hatton, making a comeback after more than three years, was stopped by a powerful body shot from the Ukrainian in a non-title welterweight fight in the Briton’s home city of Manchester.

Back in the ring after being knocked out by Manny Pacquiao in his previous fight, the former two-division world champion tried to show he had beaten personal problems, including alcohol and drugs.

He decided not to return against an easy opponent but opted to take on a credible fighter. However, he swiftly retired again as his record dropped to 45-3, with 32 knockouts.

Hatton was floored in the ninth by a left to the body that sent him crashing to the floor in agony, and he was in too much pain to rise despite backing from his supporters.
