Klitschko retains WBC

Vitali Klitschko retained his WBC title with a fourth round stoppage against Manuel Charr.

On a night that saw the champion move his record to 45-2, one now hopes that following the farce on display neither fighters will be seen in the ring again.

It all began in bizzare fashion as the wife of the Klitschko sang the Power Of Love in a cringe worthy performance that set the tone for the night both in and out of the ring. The only professional performance of the night was iconic ring announcer Michael Buffer, that must have been wondering what he was doing in Moscow.

The challenger Charr was clearly not there to fight, and displayed no skill in the ring that suggested he should never have been given a boxing license in the first place.

The fight was stopped in the 4th round due to a cut sustained above the right eye of Charr, and what was to follow simply highlighted what a waste of time and money the night was. Many heavyweights from the past have appeared in Hollywood blockbusters at some stage, perhaps somebody should have reminded Charr that this wasn’t his moment to perform as they weren’t looking for the next big Hollywood hit, in fact even if they were he certainly wouldn’t have got the role. In a petulant show following the stoppage, Charr proceeded to make an even bigger fool out of himself screaming and kicking the ropes. If he thought the world was watching perhaps he was mistaken as most would have turned their televisions off by this stage.

As for Klitschko his best days are well behind him and showing the hand speed of a 60 year old, and it was clear to see heavyweight boxing remains in a shameless state.

All i can say is that past greats in this division would have been embarrassed with what they would have witnessed and would have been thankful that they haven’t been part of this era.
