Austin Trout jabbed his way to a points victory over Miguel Cotto in New York on Saturday night.

The undefeated American won 117-11 on two cards and 119-109 on the third to retain his WBA light-middleweight title in the fight at Madison Square Garden.

The taller Trout, whose record improved to 26-0, with 14 knockouts, started confidently, keeping Cotto at bay with a long southpaw jab and fluid left hand punches to the body.

Cotto, whose record dropped to 37-4; 30, was unable to stop Trout’s jabs and combinations and to land punches on inside.
