Cruzeiro continues fine form with Santos defeat

Santos, Brazil (SportsNetwork.com) – Cruzeiro maintained its comfortable
position atop the Brasileiro table thanks to a 1-0 victory at Santos on
Sunday.

Everton provided the visitors with the lone goal in the 54th minute of the
match, which proved to be enough to lift Cruzeiro to 68 points on the season.

The win keeps the club 13 points clear of second-place Atletico Paranaense
following its 1-0 win over Internacional on Sunday.

Gremio slipped further off the pace as its winless run was extended to three
games with a 0-0 draw with Bahia.

Goias continued its rich vein of form on Sunday by capturing a 1-0 win over
Botafogo thanks to Sasha’s 89th-minute winner, and Hernane scored at the death
to hand Flamengo a 1-0 victory over Fluminense.

Also on Sunday, Criciuma and Ponte Preta split the points in a 1-1 draw while
Dinei and Guilherme scored eight minutes apart to see Vitoria and Corinthians
share the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

On Saturday, Edmilson bagged a brace to lift Vasco da Gama to a 2-1 win over
Coritiba, Atletico Mineiro cruised to a 5-0 drubbing of Nautico and Sao Paulo
earned a 2-1 defeat of Portuguesa.
