Louisville, KY (SportsNetwork.com) – Louisville forward Chane Behanan has been
dismissed from the basketball program.

Cardinals coach Rick Pitino made the announcement Monday. He did not divulge
details, saying only it was a violation of university policy.

“We lost a really terrific young man in many respects,” said Pitino on Monday.
“Between the lines he gave great effort, was a great teammate and a wonderful
guy to be around. Away from the lines, he just did not do the right things,
over and over and over.”

Behanan was suspended in October for a violation of university policy and was
reinstated in November.

“The university has gone to the mat for him,” Pitino added. “We’ve given him
every opportunity to make it here at the university. Unfortunately, it’s come
to a difficult detour and his road has set our basketball team back immensely,
from a basketball technical standpoint.”

Behanan appeared in 12 games this season and averaged 7.6 points with 6.3
rebounds. He went scoreless with a team-high seven rebounds in Saturday’s
73-66 loss to Kentucky.

“I like him a great deal,” Pitino said. “He’s a good person, but there are lot
of good people out there that make mistakes.”

Behanan was a key contributor for the 2012-13 national championship team as a
sophomore. He averaged 9.8 points and 6.5 rebounds last season and contributed
a 15-point, 12-rebound effort in Louisville’s 82-76 championship game win over
