Australia assume control

Updated: November 25, 2012

Australia moved a step closer to a second Test win when they had South Africa, 77-4 at the end of the fourth day, still 353 runs adrift of an unlikely win.

Faf du Plessis and AB de Villiers got stuck in after a flurry of wickets and managed to hold on until stumps, grinding out 32 runs off 29 overs, leaving South Africa with a mountain to climb on the final day and hoping that the rain which is forecast will come into play.

South Africa 388 and 4 for 77 (du Plessis 19*, de Villiers 12*) need another 353 runs to beat Australia 550 and 8 for 267 dec (Hussey 54, Morkel 3-50, Kleinveldt 3-65)
