England came out on top against India in a high scoring thriller in the opening match of the ODI series in Rajkot. Ian Bell with the bat and James Tredwell with the ball gave the tourists the unlikely 9 run win to go 1 up in the series.

England skipper, Alastair Cook, and fellow-opener Ian Bell enjoyed the flat track provided, and they put together a hefty 158-run partnership for the first wicket inside 28 overs, setting India a massive 325 to win.

India started well enough however with wickets falling regularly, it was always going to be tough, James Tredwell the mainstay for England with the ball taking 4/44.

England 325 for 4 (Bell 85, Cook 75) beat India 316 for 9 (Yuvraj 51, Gambir 52, Tredwell 4-44) by nine runs
