Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels hit attacking half-centuries as the West Indies scored 191-8 against Australia in a group B match of the World Twenty20 in Colombo.

In response Australia got themselves off to the perfect start, captain Shane Watson with 41 off 24 and the experienced Michael Hussey with 28 off 19 guided them through and ahead until the heavens opened and interrupted quite possibly the best finish to the tournament thus far.

Australia 100 for 1 (Watson 41*) beat West Indies 191 for 8 (Gayle 54, Samuels 50, Starc 3-35) by 17 runs (D/L method)
