England begin their Summer of home Tests today, against a young and resurgent West Indies at the home of cricket, Lords.

England captain, Andrew Strauss has been out of form in recent times with only one Test hundred in 49 innings, a run which doesn’t fit the profile of an opening batsman in the no. 1 ranked Test team in the world. For Strauss its crucial he gets some runs early in the series to get his Summer moving in the right direction. With attacking players of the caliber of Kevin Peterson to follow in the order, a sound base needs to be provided by cook and his captain, one of England’s most successful opening pairs of all time.

It was a disappointing Winter of Tests on the subcontinent for England however home advantage will prove very much in favour of a side that cant afford to lose if they want to hold onto top spot, with South Africa only a ranking point off, and due to face England in a 3 Test series later in the Summer.

The West Indies batting line up will be put under pressure throughout as they come up against an attack that features 3 bowlers in the top ten of the bowling rankings in Anderson, Broad and Swann.

Former West Indies great Brian Lara will be hoping his young cousin Darren Bravo will prove a thorn in the side of England. Bravo, a young 20 year old is still establishing himself at this level however without questions has all the attributes of being a real force in the world game over the years to come. He is a stylish left hand batsman with superb timing and extraordinary similarities to his older family member.
