Peter Fulton with a maiden Test hundred and Kane Williamson led New Zealand to the perfect start on the opening day of third and deciding Test against England at Eden Park.

The hosts finished the day on 250/1 on a wicket that offered very little assistance to the bowlers, with Fulton unbeaten on 125 and Kane Williamson on 83.

Earlier Alastair Cook won the toss and chose to field a decision that appeared to be correct considering it was a drop in pitch that showed tinges of green and promised a bit more pace and bounce than what had been on show during the series to date.

Despite some early moments for the England bowlers it was the hosts that took the initiative on day one and will now look to consolidate on day 2 with a big first innings score.
