Brendon McCullum led from the front with a captains innings, giving New Zealand a 3 wicket win over England in the opening match at Seddon Park.

Batting first England were dismissed for 258 in the final over of their innings, Ian Bell 64, Jonathan Trott 68 and Joe Root (56) contributing to the visitors cause.

In reply McCullum with 69 got his team over the finishing line with only 7 balls to spare.
