South Africa fight back

South Africa fought back gallantly on day 2 of the second Test against Australia. Captain Graeme Smith who took his team to 217-2 in typical fighting spirit scoring his 25th Test hundred finishing on 111 at stumps, still 333 runs behind the home teams first innings. He was ably assisted by his opening partner Petersen, who scored 54 before being run out in a crucial opening stand of 138.

Earlier, South Africa had their backs up against the wall on the second morning but some magic from Morkel, who bagged his first five-for against Australia, put the visitors right back in it finishing with 5-146.
