AZ Alkmaar moves up with Zwolle defeat

Zwolle, Netherlands (SportsNetwork.com) – AZ Alkmaar rose to third place in
the Eredivisie table on Sunday thanks to a 2-0 defeat of Zwolle at the
IJsseldelta Stadion.

The visitors went in front at the 37-minute mark thanks to an own goal from
Joost Broerse before sealing the victory with a 53rd-minute strike from Nick
Viergever.

AZ Alkmaar improves to 19 points, going level with Twente and Ajax for the
Eredivisie lead but falling to third place on goal difference.

Zwolle drops to fifth place by remaining on 18 points for the season.

Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven spurned chances to take sole possession of first
place in the Dutch top flight as they suffered losses on Sunday. Feyenoord
dropped a 2-1 home loss to Heracles to remain on 17 points while PSV let a
one-goal lead slip away at the Parkstad Limburg Stadion as it lost a 2-1
result to Roda, keeping the club on 18 points.

Also on Sunday, Vitesse and Groningen finished level in a 2-2 draw at the
GelreDome.
