Liverpool won a thriller at Anfield against Manchester City to take control of the Premiership title race and edge closer to a first league title since 1990.

Liverpool went into the half in complete control thanks to goals from Raheem Sterling and Martin Skrtel however a City fightback led by a David Silva and an own goals by Glen Johnson drew Pelligrini’s team level until the 78th minute when Philippe Coutinho pounced on a Vincent Kompany mistake to fire home the winner.

The win moves Brendan Roger’s team top of the league on 77 points, two clear of Chelsea, while City remain on 70 with 2 games in hand.

In the late kick-off  Demba Ba was the man of the moment yet again when he fired home the only goal of the game in the 68th minute to give Chelsea a 1-0 win over Swansea.

Ba was the toast of Stamford Bridge midweek when he provided the crucial equaliser against PSG in the dying minutes earlier in the week to secure a semifinal alongside Europe’s elite in the Champions League.
