Hamburg, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) – Hamburg has come to terms on a contract
extension with young defender Jonathan Tah, whose new deal ties him to the
club until 2018.

The 17-year-old Tah became Hamburg’s youngest ever player in the Bundesliga
when he made his club debut against Hertha Berlin in August.

He has gone on to become a key member of the side having made nine appearances
for new manager Bert van Marwijk, who took over for Thorsten Fink after the
club’s poor start to the season.

Tah signed his first professional contract this past summer, but the club has
moved quickly to secure his services in an effort to ward off potential
suitors.

“We are glad that we were able to tie a homegrown player to the club,” said
Hamburg sporting director Oliver Kreuzer.

“We have taken his development very positively and now want to lay the
foundations for a long-term collaboration.”
