Hannover, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) – Tayfun Korkut was named the new
manager of Hannover on Tuesday, making him the first Turk to manage a club in
the Bundesliga.
The 39-year-old takes over for Mirko Slomka, who was fired on Friday after a
disappointing first half of the league campaign that sees the club sitting in
13th place.
Korkut, who has signed a contract through June 2016 with Hannover, spent the
past two years as an assistant with the Turkish national team.
Prior to that, he served as a youth team coach with German sides Hoffenheim
and Stuttgart and was capped 42 times by Turkey during his playing career.
