Ryder Cup star Ian Poulter finally landed his first title of the season on a thrilling last day at Mission Hills in the HSBC Championships.

Poulter started the day 4 shots off the pace, however a closing 7 under 65 was enough to see him home 2 shots ahead of a high quality chasing pack consisting of Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Jason Dufner and Scott Piercy.

Overnight leaders Louis Oosthuizen and Lee Westwood faltered to finish a shot further back with Adam Scott eighth, defending champion Martin Kaymer ninth.

It was the 15th career win for Poulter, and in the process pocketed a cool $1.2 million for his efforts.
