Donald favourite at Mission Hills

Updated: October 31, 2012

The WGC-HSBC Championships tees off from Mission Hills in Shanghai and on 2BET2 this week. The field includes all the Major winners from this year and winners on both sides of the Atlantic, except for two noticeable absentees, the worlds top 2 golfers, Woods and McIlroy.

Former world number 1 Luke Donald starts as favourite in the absence of Woods and McIlroy, with the Englishman neededing victory this week, and another at the season-ending World Tour Championship in Dubai to have a chance of closing Rory McIlroy’s $2 million advantage.

World No 1 McIlroy is now in line to emulate Donald’s feat of last season, when he became the first player to win the money races on both sides of the Atlantic.

World number 5, Justin Rose has been in fine form this year, and come Sunday should be in the hunt. Rose has finished in the top 10 in four of his last five events on the European Tour, including tied third at the PGA Championship, his best result at a Major. A solid performance by Rose, or even a win could see him breathing down the neck of McIlroy in the Race to Dubai.

Other players looking to keep the heat on the world no. 1 are, Brendan Grace with 4 wins in an incredible rookie year, and one of the victorious Ryder Cup players, and winner last week at the BMW Masters Peter Hansen.

Ian Poulter is still looking for his first win of the year despite some consistent form, and following his top class performance in the Ryder Cup a win will complete his season.

America’s top golfers will seek revenge for their demoralising Ryder Cup defeat when they resume battle with the bulk of the European team at this week.

Reigning US Masters and British Open champions Bubba Watson and Ernie Els are among 15 Major-winners in the field, which features seven of the world’s top 10.
