Fraser takes early Cologne lead

Australia’s Marcus Fraser fired an eight under par 64 to clinch a share of the lead after the first round of the BMW International in Cologne,Germany, on Thursday.

Fraser, a two-time European Tour winner, saw his round matched by Paraguay’s Fabrizio Zanotti while Ireland’s former Ryder Cup vice captain Paul McGinley and English pair Danny Willett and Chris Wood were a shot off the pace.

American David Mathis shot a hole-in-one on his way to a one-stroke lead after Thursday’s first round of the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut.

In search of his first PGA Tour victory, Mathis leads a group of three players, Sweden’s defending champion Fredrik Jacobson, Australian Nathan Green and American Will Claxton, on 65.
