Miguel Angel Jiménez captured the UBS Hong Kong Open title for the third time and, in so doing, became the oldest winner in the history of The European Tour history.

The Spaniard produced a master class in approach play at Hong Kong Golf Club, in Fanling, to finish on 15 under par, one stroke clear of Fredrik Andersson Hed.

Six months older than Des Smyth was when he won the Madeira Islands Open in 2001, Jiménez has now notched 19 victories on The European Tour, and 12 since turning 40 – with two coming in Hong Kong, in 2005 and 2008.

“This is a great place, and I love to come here every year,” he said. “Since 2004, I haven’t missed a year. I like the city, and especially I like the golf course.

“It’s a golf course where length is not the most important thing. I just feel very comfortable out here, and that shows in my results.”
