Toscano honored by harness writers

Harrisburg, PA (Sports Network) – Linda Toscano has been voted 2012 champion
trainer by the U.S. Harness Writers Association (USHWA). Toscano is the
trainer of Horse of the Year Chapter Seven.

The 57-year-old Toscano received 122 of 130 votes from USHWA members. She
earned more than $6.7 million with 101 wins in 440 starts.

Leading the way in Toscano’s stabler was 4-year-old trotter Chapter Seven. The
colt finished the year as the top-ranked horse in the Hambletonian
Society/Breeders Crown Top 10 poll.

Chapter Seven won eight of 10 starts in the past year with two seconds for
just over $1 million. His 2012 season was highlighted by winning the $600,000
Breeders Crown Older Colt and Gelding Trot, his second Breeders Crown victory.

Other major stakes victories for the colt were the $250,000 Nat Ray, $201,700
Titan Cup, $180,000 American-National, $150,000 Maxie Lee and $131,200
Allerage Open Trot.

Chapter Seven was also voted the Dan Patch Awards as Trotter and Older Male
Trotter of the Year.

Along with Chapter Seven, Toscano also trains Market Share. The 3-year-old
trotter captured the Hambletonian and was honored as champion 3-year-old Male
Trotter. The colt earned $2 million for the year with wins in half of his 20
starts.

Toscano will be recognized when the Dan Patch Awards are presented on Sunday,
March 3 in Fort Lauderdale.
