Federer and Li Na roll on in the Desert
Roger Federer will face giant killer Alexandr Dolgopolov in the semifinals of Indian Wells while Li Na and Flavia Pennetta will face off at the same stage in the ladies draw.
Federer stretched his unbeaten run to 10 victories as he eased past Kevin Anderson 7/6, 6/1. The Swiss was in sublime form and remains on course to lift his 5th title at Indian Wells.
Ukrainian Dolgopolov continued his superb run when he accounted for number 10 seed Milos Raonic, 6/3, 6/4.
Earlier in the tournament Dolgopolov accounted for world number 1 Rafa Nadal and the “Dog,” as he has fondly become known as, has another opportunity of taking down one of the all time greats. The pair have only met on one occasion previously, Federer winning that encounter back in 2010.
In the ladies draw, Li Na and Flavia Pennetta joined Simona Halep and Agnieszka Radwanska in the semifinals when they accounted for Dominika Cibulkova and Sloane Stephens respectively.
Na is looking for a third tournament win in 4 starts needed 3 sets to overcome Cibulkova, eventually winning, 6/3, 4/6, 6/3.
Her semifinal opponent, Pennetta, defeated American and local favourite Sloane Stephens also in 3 sets, battling to a 6/4, 7/5, 6/4 win.
