Nadal lifts Madrid tile after Nishikori retires
Rafa Nadal finally got his French Open preparations back on track when he defeated Kei Nishikori in the final of the Madrid Masters after the Japanese superstar was forced to retire due to a back problem.
Nishikori had Nadal on the back foot after blitzing the Spaniard 6/2 in the first set however the world number 1 found his range after being a break down to shift the momentum and clinch the second set 6/4.
The Spaniard was 3/0 up in the third when Nishikori called a halt to proceedings and gift Nadal his 27th Masters title and fourth in the Spanish capitol.
For Nishikori it ended a run of 15 matches unbeaten and the opportunity of following up his win in Barcelona with a second consecutive title.
