In an exciting climax to the regular season in the American League, the Yankees and the Athletics lifted the AL East and AL West titles.

Curtis Granderson and Robinson Cano were the heros on the night for the Yankees, both hitting a pair of home runs in a comprehensive 14-2 win over the Red Sox. The win last night has secured the Yankees a 13th divisional title in 17 years, while the Red Sox will be looking forward to forgetting about their season that delivered only 69 wins out of 162 regular season games.

AL East title contenders Baltimore were in Tampa hoping for the Red Sox to cause the upset, and for them to register a famous win, neither of which happened, as they lost 4-1.

Oakland clawed back a 13 game deficit in spectacular fashion to clinch the AL West title from under the noses of the Rangers with a 12-5 win in front of their delighted home fans, a remarkable achievement for a club that has the lowest payroll in Baseball.
