Dani Pedrosa completed a successful first preseason testing session in Sepang by topping the time sheets for the third consecutive day.

On all three days he edged rival and world champion Jorge Lorenzo, although the times remained very close.

Moto GP newcomer on a Honda who was running third on the first 2 days, ended the final session in fourth behind his idol Valentino Rossi, despite coming off unscathed.

Despite being happy with the pace of his Honda, Pedrosa stressed there is still plenty of work to be done on the shock absorbers and clutch, a problem he claimed the bike suffered with at times last season. Pedrosa, 27, is in the hunt for his first MotoGP championship. He has finished MotoGP title runner-up on three occasions since his 2006 debut.

Defending champion Lorenzo said he would focus more on the bike’s acceleration and traction during the next test.

Rossi said he no longer had doubts about returning to competitve MotoGP racing after three hard days of testing, and suggested he was eyeing a podium finish from the first race of the season.
