Bobrovsky, Blue Jackets down Coyotes in SO

Updated: March 17, 2013

Sergei Bobrovsky recorded 39 saves, and the
Columbus Blue Jackets extended their longest points streak in franchise
history with a 1-0 shootout win over the Phoenix Coyotes.

Bobrovsky, who recorded his second shutout of his career, both this season,
helped the Blue Jackets record a point in their 10th straight game (6-0-4).

Artem Anisimov and Mark Letestu scored in Columbus’ fourth straight game that
ended in shootout fashion.

“We needed to be better in some areas,” Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards said.
“You could tell our tanks were on empty.”

Mike Smith stopped 23 shots for the Coyotes, who have been blanked in their
last two contests. Phoenix lost 3-0 at St. Louis on Thursday.

“Our effort through the 65 minutes was very strong,” Coyotes coach Dave
Tippett said. “We just need to get a little luck around the net.”

Bobrovsky denied Rob Klinkhammer on a breakaway midway through the second
period. It was part of 16 stops he made in the stanza.

The Blue Jackets outshot the Coyotes, 9-3, in the third period, and the two
sides combined for only three shots in overtime. Bobrovsky made a glove save
on a left circle blast from Martin Hanzal 1:40 into the extra session.

In the shootout, Anisimov was up first and he scored on a backhand. Bobrovsky
then stopped Mikkel Boedker on a shot that clipped off the glove. Letestu
skated through the right circle before moving to the front when he fired high
into the net. Bobrovsky stuffed Steve Sullivan’s attempt from in close to seal
the outcome.
