Uniondale, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – John Tavares’ streak of 246 consecutive
games played will be coming to an end on Saturday, with the New York
Islanders’ captain to miss the team’s matchup with the New Jersey Devils with
a lower-body injury.

Tavares also sat out Friday’s practice with the ailment, which head coach Jack
Capuano told reporters has been lingering for some time.

The 2009 No. 1 overall pick, who leads the Islanders in both goals (13) and
assists (26), has not missed a contest since sustaining a concussion in the
2010-11 season opener and subsequently being scratched for the next three
games.

Rookie Brock Nelson is expected to center New York’s top line alongside Thomas
Vanek and Kyle Okposo against the Devils.
