San Jose, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Joe Thornton scored once in regulation and
netted the game-winner in the eighth round of the shootout to lift the San
Jose Sharks to a 3-2 triumph over the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday at SAP
Center.

After Logan Couture came up empty to start the shootout, Anze Kopitar and Joe
Pavelski exchanged markers to tie the shootout at one.

Both teams missed in the third round before the next four shooters each scored
to keep the extra session going.

After the next four shooters came up empty, Thornton skated down the right
side and stuffed a backhander between the post and the left pad of Ben
Scrivens to put the Sharks on top.

Tyler Toffoli had a chance to extend the shootout, but was turned aside by
Antti Niemi, who finished with 38 saves.

Pavelski also lit the lamp in regulation for the Sharks, who have won three
straight and six of their last seven.

Drew Doughty and Jeff Carter each scored once for the Kings, who extended
their point streak to 11 games despite the setback.

Scrivens stopped 38 shots in defeat.
