In the same group match play specialist Ernie Els delivered the blow on the 19th hole to defeat the number 1 seed Justin Rose while his next round opponent Jason Duffner sent Matteo Mannasero packing 2&1.
Top seed in the Booby Jones group Henrik Stenson endured a tough day in the office when he was thrashed 5&4 by former Open champions Louis Oosthuizen. Next up for the South African will be Major winner Webb Simpson who defeated Brandt Snedeker by the same scoreline. Jason Day and George Coetzee joined them in the next round with hard fought wins over 22 and 21 holes respectively.
In the Ben Hogan group Sergio Garcia beat Bill Haas 3&1 and will face Ricky Fowler who ended Jimmy Walker’s run. Walker in the form of his life with 3 PGA Tour wins already this season. In the same group Rory McIlroy was sent crashing out on the 19th hole by Harris English who will now face Jim Furyk following his 3&2 win over Charl Schwartzel.
Last weeks winner at the Northern Trust Bubba Watson rolled on against Jonas Blixt and will match up against Victor Dubuisson in the Sam Snead group. Other winners in the Sam Snead group were Hunter Mahan and Graeme McDowell won defeated Richard Sterne and Hideki Matsuyama respectively.
