France beat England, Wales down Italy

France opened up their Six Nations campaign with a thrilling 26-24 Six Nations victory over England on Saturday thanks to a late converted try by Gael Fickou at the Stade de France.

England were stunned in the first 30 seconds when Yohan Huget went over to give the home team the early momentum. Huget added to his tally 17 minutes later before Mike Brown scored to give England some hope.

Luther Burrell scored for England in the second half thanks to some good work by Vunipola. A Danny Care drop goal and 3 points from the boot of Alex Goode put England into a winning position however France were not done and the late replacements paid off when hooker Dimitri Szarzewski timed his pass to perfection to allow Fickou to cross and Machenaud kicked the winning conversion.

In the days other game Wales kicked off their bid for a third consecutive trophy with a hard fought 23-15 win over a spirited Italy.
