Gallant Pumas downed by the All Blacks

Argentina continued their education and introduction into the Rugby Championship, in a wet and windy Wellington, going down 21-5 against the world champions New Zealand.

As already shown in their previous 2 games against the Springboks, the Pumas are not here simply to make up the numbers, and if they wanted to stress this point, against the mighty All Blacks they did exactly that.

The home team went in after the first 40 minutes with a slender 6-5 lead, the Pumas with the only try of the half, Roncero burrowing himself over the line to claim the 5 points.

The Argentinian scrum held firm throughout this period and again showed that in the breakdown and close contact they can match any team in the world with skill and physicality. Fernandez Lobbe was again outstanding and in defence the entire unit showed how capable they are at this level.

Late second half tries by Jane and Savea is what created daylight for the All Blacks who still remain unbeaten in the competition.

As for the Pumas, still looking for their first win, they were far from disgraced, if anything on this form their first win against the big three is surely not far away.
