Italy put on a fantastic display in Rome in their opening 6 Nations encounter with France. It was without question one of their best performances of any campaign, with captain Sergio Parisse leading from the front yet again with a brilliant performance in their 23-18 win.

Tries from captain Sergio Parisse and Martin Castrogiovanni, plus 10 points from man-of-the-match Luciano Orquera and three more from substitute Kris Burton led them to victory against one of the favourites.

Italy had said they were targeting 2 wins during this campaign and with a visit to Murrayfield next week, this could be achieved within the first 2 weeks. Italy have improved dramatically over the years and this performance will serve as warning that they will be a threat throughout the tournament.
