Bayern and Juventus held, Real and Barca win

Bayern Munich surrendered some initiative in the Bundesliga when the drew, AC Milan and Napoli played out a thrilling draw and Barcelona and Real Madrid marched on with comprehensive wins in La Liga all on a night of continental football action.

Bayern Munich were held 1-1 by Nuremberg in the Bavarian derby, however they did manage to extend their lead at the top over Schalke who are in action today. Champions Borussia Dortmund, in fourth place, closed to within nine points after a dominant 3-1 victory over Greuther Fuerth.

Paris St Germain retained the Ligue 1 top spot on Saturday despite suffering a shock 2-1 home loss to nine-man Stade Rennes on Saturday, their second consecutive league defeat at Parc des Princes.

In Italy, a brilliant brace from young Italy striker Stephan El Shaarawy brought AC Milan back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Napoli while Serie A leaders Juventus were held 0-0 at home to Lazio.

In Spain, Barcelona pulled six points clear of Atletico Madrid at the top of La Liga when Lionel Messi netted his seventh double of the campaign in a 3-1 win over Real Zaragoza.

World Player of the Year Messi took his league tally for the season to 17 with a pair of beautifully executed finishes as unbeaten Barca moved on to 34 points from 12 matches.

Atletico have 28 points ahead of their game at Granada on Sunday, while third-placed Real Madrid closed to within two of their city rivals when they crushed visiting Athletic Bilbao 5-1.
