Chelsea set up a semifinal clash with defending champions Barcelona with a sluggish 2-1 win over 10 man Benfica, while Madrid powered to a 5-2 win at the Bernabeu against Nicosia, 8-2 on aggregate over the 2 legs.

Chelsea held a slender 1-0 lead coming into the second leg in London and despite playing most of the game with a man advantage, left it late to secure the win, with substitute Meireles scoring the winner after Frank Lampard put the hosts into an early lead with his 184th goal for Chelsea and his 22nd in the Champions League. On this performance it would appear that their Champions League adventure for this season will abruptly end in the last 4 against Barca.

Real Madrid powered on against Nicosia, Ronaldo scoring his 48th and 49th goals of the season and Kaka also getting on the scoresheet. The Brazillian has been struggling with injury of recent times, however his recent form has suggested he is getting close to the force he once was. Bayern await Madrid in the last 4, a mouthwatering prospect, and certainly not an easy fixture for Mourinho and his team.
