Di Matteo dumbed by ruthless Abramovich

Updated: November 21, 2012

Roberto Di Matteo became another casualty in the the Chelsea managerial saga, as the Italian became the 8th high profile manager to be ruthlessly dismissed by billionaire owner Roman Abramovic. Stunning considering he won 2 trophies in less than a year of taking the helm, including the Champions League, one trophy he delivered that the Russian had craved since taking over the club in 2003.

The 3-0 defeat in Turin last night finally sealed his fate, and the speculation now begins as to who will be next. Chelsea, who have won only two of their last eight games in all competitions, added they would be making an announcement shortly regarding a new manager with bookmakers listing former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez and ex-Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola as early favourites, with Harry Redknapp joining the list in the last hour or so.

Di Matteo joins the list of some pretty high profile names to have been dismissed, names like Scolari, Hiddink, Mourinho, Ancelotti and Ranieri.
