Feyenoord moved into third place in
the Eredivisie table on Sunday after securing a 3-1 home win against AZ
Alkmaar.

The victory moves the club to within three points of leaders PSV Eindhoven,
while fellow top-four sides Twente and Ajax were both held to draws on Sunday.

Jean-Paul Boetius netted the opening goal midway through the first half, but
AZ leveled the contest in the 63rd minute through Roy Beerens.

However, Nick Viergever received a red card for AZ just four minutes later,
allowing Jordy Clasie to score the go-ahead goal in the 72nd and Tonny Vilhena
to put the result out of reach with a goal in stoppage time.

PSV’s 2-2 draw at Vitesse on Saturday gave Ajax the opportunity to close to
within a point with a home win against Roda.

But the Amsterdam side fell behind 1-0 at halftime to a goal from Roda’s Adil
Ramzi, and could only manage to score once after the break to level the
contest with Daley Blind providing the tally.

Ajax sits level with Feyenoord on 44 points and both teams reside one point
clear of fourth-place Twente, which dropped down the table after being held to
a 1-1 draw at 16th-place Zwolle.

Dusan Tadic handed Twente a good start when he scored after 11 minutes, but
Denni Avdic answered from the penalty spot with nine minutes to play to force
the visitors to settle for a point.

The other contest on Sunday saw NEC top Utrecht, 3-0, with Melvin Platje
scoring after 15 minutes and Erik Falkenburg and Ruud Boymans each tallying
once in the final five minutes.
