Gomez gives Bayern the upper hand

A late Mario Gomez goal gave Bayern Munich deserved victory over Real Madrid as the Bundesliga side successfully shackled and subdued Cristiano Ronaldo in their Champions League semi-final, first leg.

Frank Ribéry’s smartly taken early strike had the Germans in control at half-time, but Mesut Özil finished off a lightning Madrid counter attack to equalise soon after the break.

Bayern finished the game much the stronger, with Gomez missing three decent chances and having a penalty claim turned down before finally converting Philipp Lahm’s cross on 89 minutes to give his side the 2-1 victory.

Tonight Stamford Bridge hosts the other semi final as Chelsea take on Barcelona. Chelsea are in resurgent form since the dismissal of Boas Villas, and Di Matteo and his team come into the match full of confidence following the demolition of Spurs in the FA Cup this weekend.

Barca are a better team with Sanchez up front, a perfect foil for the greatest footballer ever, Messi. 2BET2 has the odds. Is an upset on the cards tonight?
