Lazio take on Udinese, Schalke hoping for winning run

Lazio take on Udinese tonight hoping to capitalise on some indifferent form over the weekend by the top teams, and leapfrog rivals Roma into 5th spot only 6 points behind leaders Juventus. In other action from around Europe Schalke will be looking to get back on a winning run away at Hamburg tonight with Borrussia Dortmund also in action in the Bundesliga. Bayern Munich are away to Freiburg tomorrow however will certainly have one eye on their big clash on Saturday against champions Borussia Dortmund. In France the French cup quarterfinals begin, with Carlo Ancelotti and his team hoping to remain in the hunt for an unprecedented four trophies this season.

In Italy Lazio host Udinese. With Inter and Juventus losing on the weekend, and Roma, Fiorentina and Napoli all picking up points, Lazio have a chance to get themselves in the mix of only 9 points separating the top 6, in what is turning out to be one of the most exciting seasons in Serie A for years. Lazio come into the match off a 3-2 win over rivals Roma, and last time out a share of the points against Juventus in a 0-0 draw. Udinese on the other hand have scored 6 goals on their way to 3 draws against Bologna, Chievo and Parma.

In Germany the Bundesliga plays out a full fixture list today and tomorrow. After losing second place in the Bundesliga to archrivals Borussia Dortmund, Schalke are eager to get back on track at injury-hit Hamburger SV on Tuesday. The Gelsenkirchen-based club had a five-point lead over Dortmund after winning their Ruhr derby on October 20 but find themselves one behind the defending champions after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt, 10 points behind leaders Bayern, after securing only 4 points from their last 4 games. Dortmund are also on the field tonight when they take on 14th place Fortuna Duesseldorf, while Hannover host Greuther Fuerth, and Mainz visit Frankfurt.

Bayern visit Freiburg on Wednesday, before their crunch meeting with Dotmund in Munich on Saturday. Also on Wednesday, Borussia Moenchengladbach host Wolfsburg, Augsburg visit Stuttgart, Werder Bremen play Bayer Leverkusen and struggling Nuremberg host third-from-bottom Hoffenheim.

In France, Paris Saint Germain travel to Saint Etienne in the first of the French League Cup quarterfinals. Earlier this month Saint Etienne ended PSG’s unbeaten record in the League following a 2-1 win. Ibrahimovic was on top form again on the weekend with another brace in a 4-0 over Troyes, taking his league tally to 12, however it is still unsure if the talisman will start.

On Wednesday Montpelier host Nice, while Bastia must overcome Lille. Rennes and Troyes do battle on Thursday.
