Ronaldo to return “home” ? Pressure mounts in Madrid

It certainly isn’t going to be a happy Christmas in Madrid for Jose Mourinho and his team, as the pressure starts to build on the Spanish giants and defending La Liga Champions following a string of failed performances that sees them already 16 points behind their bitter Catalan rivals Barcelona, and to make matters worse they lie in third behind their city rivals Athletico.

There was further disappointment last night as they were defeated 3-2 away from home by a resurgent Malaga, managed by former Real boss Pelligrini. It was also the first time in 10 years that captain Casillas had been dropped, a sign that things are reaching crisis point in the Spanish capital. The decision to drop the hugely popular Casillas, who has been first choice keeper since 2000, has been interpreted by many journalists and fans as an attempt to provoke Perez into sacking him. Claims from Spanish media on Sunday suggest that Perez would probably like to see the back of the Portuguese coach now, but cannot afford the 40 million euros (52.8 million dollars) needed to pay off Mourinho and his six assistants.

To compound matters further, reports coming out this morning are suggesting that world record signing Ronaldo wants to jump ship and return “home” to Manchester United, the team they have drawn in the last 16 of the Champions League. If these claims are to be believed this could spell the end for President Perez and for the self proclaimed, “special one,” Mourinho. On the other hand this could also be a typical English provocation to get under the skin of the Spanish champions ahead of the Champions League clash. Whichever it is, one things for sure, Real are under severe pressure at the moment.

Ronaldo has achieved great success since he moved to the Spanish capital with 170 goals in 169 games in the 3 years he has been at the club. He still has two and a half years to run on his contract and with a buyout clause of 1 billion Euros it seems unlikely that this will occur, especially considering Real would want more than £100 million for their star player.

All speculation at present however it wouldn’t be a surprise if there are already odds available on who will be leaving Real Madrid first, Perez, Mourinho or Ronaldo?
