Real coast in first leg of Kings Cup, PSG knock out Marseille

Karim Benzema and Kaka orchestrated  Real Madrid to a 4-1 win at third-tier Alcoyano in a King’s Cup last-32 first leg, the Brazilian scoring, then turning provider for the second of Benzema’s two goals.

Atletico extended their unbeaten run to 23 games in all competitions with a 3-0 victory at Segunda B side Jaen, while Malaga had a tougher time beating third-tier Cacereno 4-3 needing a double from Roque Santa Cruz.

Second division Almeria upset promoted Celta Vigo 2-0 at home, with another second division side La Palmas also sprung a surprise with a 1-0 win at home to Rayo.

In the only all-La Liga tie of the night Zaragoza made the most of home advantage to beat Granada 1-0.

In the French Cup, Paris St Germain’s domestic dominance continued when they qualified for the League Cup quarterfinals by knocking out holders Olympique Marseille with a 2-0.

St Etienne, Troyes, Stade Rennes, Montpellier, Nice and Lille all join PSG in the next round.
