Atletico and Chelsea in the balance

Atletico Madrid and Chelsea played out a goalless draw in their Champions League first leg semifinal clash at the Vincente Calderon.

Jose Mourinho’s team arrived depleted with injuries and his strategy was plain to see as the London team set out their stall with a defensive effort that shut out the attacking Atletico to leave the tie in the balance.

Diego Simeone’s team reached the last 4 for the first time in 40 years however their attacking trio of Garcia, Diego and Koke couldn’t break down the defensive wall of Chelsea, Cahill and Terry having an exceptional night.

Jose Mourinho will have to contemplate life without keeper Petr Czech and John Terry who both look set to miss the rest of the season after sustaining injuries while Lampard and Obi Mikel will both miss the second leg after being booked alongside Gabi for the Spanish.

Tonight’s other semifinal sees Real Madrid entertain Bayern Munich.
