A dramatic late winner by Demba Ba secured Chelsea a semifinal berth in the Champions league on away goals while Real Madrid survived a spirited Borussia Dortmund to book their place despite losing on the night in Germany.

Chelsea, winners in 2012, needed something special to overcome the first leg 3-1 deficit against PSG and a first half goal from Andre Schurrie gave the London side some hope, the German international slotting home the opener from inside the box.

Chelsea continued to apply the pressure in search of the all important equaliser, Willian and Oscar both hitting the post.

Before lick-off, Jose Mourinho said it would be a special night at Stamford Bridge and substitute Demba Ba made sure his words rung true when the forgotten man at Chelsea got on the end of a deflection to scramble to ball into the net with barely 3 minutes to go, sending his team through.

It will be Jose Mourinho’s 5th consecutive UCL semifinal after reaching the last 4 stage with Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter Milan.

Real Madrid join Chelsea despite losing to a gallant Borussia Dortmund 2-0 on the night. The Madrid giants have their strong first leg showing to thank as they held on to advance 3-2 on aggregate.

Angelo di Maria missed a penalty for Madrid in the 17th minute which would have effectively ended the tie however Morco Reus had other ideas as he put the Germans 2-0 up, both goals coming from defensive errors from the Real.

They pushed hard however couldn’t find the equaliser that would have provided extra-time.

Tonight, Athletico and Bayern host Barcelona and Manchester United with both ties finely in the balance at 1 goal a piece.

The semifinal draw takes place on Friday.
