United surge clear Real open the door for Barca

Manchester United opened an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League with a 2-0 win over QPR while Manchester City slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Arsenal.

In Spain, Real Madrid saw their lead cut to four points after a 0-0 draw with Valencia while Barcelona crushed Zaragoza 4-1.

Manchester United all but sealed a 20th English title as they moved into an eight-point lead over Manchester City with just six games left to play, Scholes and Rooney providing United with the goals that look to have clinched them the title.

United certainly have the gunners to thank for their lead in the table, compliments to a 1-0 win over City. Arteta scoring the only goal of the game which secured them the points.

Real Madrid have Barcelona breathing down their necks after having their lead in La Liga cut to just four points following a 0-0 draw with Valencia. Both sides remain on a collision course for the Champions League final, however it is the the league that Real have surrendered an unassailable lead.
