Ten-man Liverpool were left searching for their first Premier League win under new manager Brendan Rodgers as arch-rivals Manchester United came from behind to win 2-1 at an emotional Anfield.

Despite being a man down Liverpool went ahead in the 46th minute, a Steven Gerrard goal.

However, United only had to wait five minutes for an equaliser when Rafael curled in a superb shot from the right-hand side of the Liverpool area.

And with 15 minutes to go United, who had missed their last three penalties,  were awarded a spot-kick when Liverpool defender Glen Johnson brought down Antonio Valencia.

The home faithful at Etihad Stadium showed their frustration as City drew for third time in their opening five games, Laurent Koscielny smashing a late equaliser for Arsenal after Joleon Lescott had headed the hosts into a halftime lead.

Tottenham Hotspur have eight points after Jermain Defoe sealed a 2-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers, Spurs’s first home win under new manager Andre Villas-Boas.

Demba Ba’s early goal earned Newcastle United a 1-0 win over their former manager Chris Hughton’s Norwich City.
