Ronaldo sends Madrid top

Madrid moved to the top of the La Liga table on Saturday thanks to a 2-0 defeat of Granada at the Bernabeu.

Second-half goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema handed Carlo Ancelotti’s men the victory, sending the club to first place on 53 points. Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, both on 51 points, can move ahead of Madrid with wins on Sunday.

Also on Saturday, Valladolid pulled off a shock win over Villarreal, Jesus Rueda scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win at the Jose Zorrilla,
Valencia and Espanyol shared the points after playing to a 2-2 draw at the Mestalla and Sevilla held the lead twice at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan but came away with nothing after suffering a 3-2 loss to Levante
