Ferrer through to last four

David Ferrer moved a step closer to lifting his first Masters Series title when he defeated local favourite Jo-Wilfred Tsonga in straight sets in Paris. Ferrer was also joined by world no. 69, and qualifier Jerzy Janowicz,  who followed up his shock win over Andy Murray with a win over Janko Tipsarevic, when he was forced to retire in the deciding set.

Janowicz faces Gilles Simon, who is also unseeded, in the semifinals. The Frenchman earlier beat fifth-seeded Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-4, while Ferrer’s semifinal opponent will be Frenchman Michael Llodra, who beat big-serving American Sam Querrey 7-6 (4), 6-3.
