Goldencents shines in winning Dirt Mile

Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Goldencents set the pace from the start and
went on to capture the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Santa Anita Park.

Trained by Doug O’Neill and ridden by Rafael Bejarano, Goldencents was pressed
on the lead by Broadway Empire over a fast dirt track. Bejarano kept the
3-year-old together down the stretch and was able to post a three-length win
over Golden Ticket.

Brujo de Olleros finished third in the 12-horse field with 2-1 favorite
Verrazano fourth. Taptowne was scratched with a bruised foot.

Goldencents, partly owned by Rick Pitino, covered the mile in 1:35.12.

Goldencents, winner of the this year’s Santa Anita Derby, picks up $570,000
with the win. The colt has earned $2 million with five wins in 12 starts.

Goldencents returned $9.60, $5.00 and $4.00. Golden Ticket paid $6.40 and
$4.60, and Brujo De Olleros paid $4.60 to show.
