Charleston, SC (Sports Network) – Doris Chen defeated Lauren Diaz-Yi, 4 & 3,
on Friday to reach the semifinals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.

It was a measure of revenge for Chen, who lost to Diaz-Yi, 10 & 9, in the U.S.
Women’s Amateur Public Links final in June. With Friday’s win, Chen advanced
to face Yueer Cindy Feng, who downed Annie Park, 6 & 4, in the quarterfinals.

Saturday’s other semifinal match will pit Alison Lee against Emma Talley. The
former defeated Katelyn Sepmoree, 4 & 3, while the latter needed 19 holes to
dispatch Su-Hyun Oh, 1-up.

Chen stumbled to a bogey at the first to fall one down, but she righted
herself in proper fashion.

“I hit a great shot, but I was just a little bit careless about the yardage,”
she said of her opening hole.

From there, Chen squared the match at the next and went 1-up with a birdie
at the third.

After Diaz-Yi squared it at the fifth, Chen highlighted the match with three
straight wins from Nos. 7 – 9, beginning with a birdie at the seventh. She
was 3-up after that run, and gained another shot at the 14th before matching
Diaz-Yi’s par at the 15th for the 4 & 3 win.

“I did pretty well,” said Chen. “I just changed my practice approach a bit.
I’m happy it worked out.”
